Jack was the talk of the town. He was a fifteen month old Jack Russell puppy.
As young as he was, he had a job. A very important job.
He was in charge of keeping Mummy and Daddy safe.
Mummy had a sore back and needed to ride on an electric mobility scooter just to get to shop. Jack loved to jump up onto Mummy's lap and greet everyone they saw.
Mummy was very proud of Jack. Jack was very smart.
When he wasn't riding on Mummy's knee, he was walking beside her or Daddy. He would keep his nose to the sidewalk, sniffing, and sniffing. He was curious about everything and always had an eye on everyone.
Below is the start of his first real adventure story.
"Jack Saves Mummy from the ......"
"He's our little detective," Mummy would joke. "Who knew the police would hire such a little dog to solve such big mysteries?"
They all lived together in Aberdeen in Scotland, a very beautiful place to live.
It was also a very mysterious place. There were secrets and surprise hiding everywhere. Jack was sniffing along one day while Mummy rolled beside him. He sniffed all the way up to a flower garden. Then he sniffed some more.
"Jack, it's just flowers," Mummy said with a frown. "Don't get them messy now, someone's worked very hard to make them very nice."
But Jack knew that they weren't just flowers. He smelled something else in the garden. He was careful not to trample on the flowers, but he kept sniffing.
Someone or something was definitely here and Jack was not going to let the matter drop until he had solved it.

Did you know that Charles Dickens wrote most of his novels as serials with a newspaper publishing one chapter at a time? Well I have finished writing the story but am only going to let you see a small piece of it now. You will have to come back to see how the story continues. Don't forget to like me on Facebook (top left hand of this page).
